I wanted to write about this subject which I have a great interest in and find I obtain very good results when conducting hypnotherapy.
There are 16 million adults in the UK who suffer from sleepless nights. 31% say they have Insomnia. That is two-thirds of the adult population! 48% say they don’t get the right amount of sleep and nearly 23% only manage a maximum of 5 hours a night.
51% of adults do not take anything to help this issue. Most will go to their GP and be given sleeping tablets. More than 1 in 10 take these. 13% believe alcohol will help them.
America has a bigger issue. 1 in 3 adults reports they have a sleeping disorder. That is 35% of adults.
There are so many books and methods to help insomnia nowadays. So many websites writing about it, so surely people should be getting the help they need? Well, it does not appear to be that way. It is the same for any phobia or anxiety, people do not think it is worth spending their money on therapy until they have tried it and found the benefits.
Why spend money on a nice holiday if you are worried about water or taking a flight. If you suffer from insomnia you are probably going to be tired and grumpy the whole time? So would a few sessions not be beneficial to the holiday?
I recently helped a 75-year-old lady who had not slept properly for over 20 years. Now she can sleep 5/6 hours a night. This gives us therapists a worthwhile feeling of achievement. This helps to show that age is irrelevant when it comes to helping yourself. You are never too old to learn new behaviors and beliefs.
‘Ah yes, but I can buy an audio off the internet and do it without going to a therapist’! – Well yes, you can, BUT you will not gain as much benefit as you would do from a therapist where you would get an understanding of hypnosis. For many years I have enjoyed the game of tennis with my children, not taking a lesson in my life. My wife would keep saying I was playing ‘Garden Tennis’ and should have lessons. Being a typical Man I thought I knew what I was doing. Why waste money? However, after many ‘nags’ I took that advice and invested in lessons. The rest is history! What a joy it was to see an expert in action and learn from someone passionate about their sport. I found new ways to love the game and found I was so much more accurate in my shots. What a fool I was for not listening to my wife earlier.
Sometimes we have to listen to others. A saying I learnt years ago, ‘If you always do what you have always done, then you will always get what you have always got’. So try NOW something different with hypnotherapy. Type into Google Scholar hypnosis and insomnia and see the research and evidence that proves this form of therapy works.
By learning new thought techniques and ideas you will learn how to switch off at night and find you awake from a deeper nights sleep.
